On Wednesday, February 8th Wynn Development, Suffolk Construction, and the Massachusetts Girls in Trades held a Construction Trades Career Fair for Women at the Wynn Boston Harbor Construction Office.

The building trades are actively seeking women who are graduates of career and technical (vocational) programs in areas such as carpentry, bricklaying, floor covering, painting, iron working, and many others.

This career fair was an excellent opportunity to explore high-wage, high-skill careers in union construction. Experts such as union apprenticeship representatives, contractors and working tradeswomen were present to talk with attendees.

The DeMaria administration looks forward to continuing to work with Wynn Development, Suffolk Construction, and the Massachusetts Girls in Trades in providing more opportunities for all women.

The Mayor believes it is important that we continue to have a shared goal of supporting and encouraging female career and technical education students and alumnae so that they can pursue careers in the skilled trades.

Mayor DeMaria stated, “I would also like to thank Jeanne Cristiano, our City's first female Veterans Commissioner, for speaking so passionately to the women who attended the meeting. Jeanne spoke on her experience as one of the first female laborers at the Massachusetts Port Authority and gave thoughtful and inspiring advice.”
