DESCRIPTION:Mayor Carlo DeMaria Presents the City of Everett’s Juneteenth Celebration!\nResidents and their families are invited to unite in celebration with music\, food and activities for children \n \nAll are invited to unite in celebration of Juneteenth with music\, food\, and activities for the kids to enjoy as we raise the Juneteenth flag at Everett Stadium. The event will feature guest speakers and live performances by Angelena Hightower & The Unit\, Big Redds House\, DJ Troy Anthony\, Drummers of Peace\, Janey David and The Woo Factor. \nFree Ride to the Stadium\nAttendees are encouraged to take the Neighborhood Runner shuttle provided through the courtesy of Encore to the event\, which has added the stadium to the route for the day. Pickup locations include Glendale Towers (381 Ferry Street)\, Everett Recreation Center (47 Elm Street)\, Zion Church Ministries (757 Ferry Street) and 66 Main Street. To find the full schedule and learn more about this free service\, please visit cityofeverett.com/resident-services/everett-living/encore-neighborhood-runner-shuttle-service. \nJuneteenth\, which is a nationally recognized holiday on June 19 in the United States\, celebrates when in 1865 Union Army General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston\, Texas to tell enslaved African Americans they are now free. This was one of the last places in the United States to free slaves after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued by President Abraham Lincoln on January 1\, 1863. \nThe City will be joining in celebrations across the country by raising the Juneteenth flag\, which represents the emancipation of enslaved African Americans\, and hosting an event for the community to participate in. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.

The shredding day will take place on Saturday\, June 24\, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Rivergreen parking lot located at 1 Rivergreen Drive. \nThe City has partnered with Mass Bay Credit Union and Stericycle to provide the opportunity for residents to properly shred old documents that may contain sensitive details pertaining to their personal information as it is important to keep your private information protected. This event offers a chance to safely and securely shred these documents and any others you would like to discard. \n“Properly shredding important documents containing sensitive information is important to keeping your private information protected\,” said Mayor DeMaria. “We wanted to offer residents the chance to safely and securely dispose of these documents\, and by partnering with Mass Bay Credit Union and Stericycle\, we can ensure that these items will be properly shredded.” \nPlease be prepared to show proof of residency when you arrive because this event is for Everett residents only. To end the night\, our grand finale will be the spectacular fireworks show to light up the night sky with so many bright colors. \n \nDoll Carriage\, Bicycle & Wagon Decorating Contest\n \nTo kick off our Independence Day event\, the Everett City Council will once again be hosting this great Everett tradition. This age-old contest will allow you to use your imagination and decorate your choice of carriage\, bicycle\, stroller or wagon in whichever manner you choose and have your entry paraded in front of our stage at the event. It is recommended that you arrive with your entry between 5:30 p.m. and 5:55 p.m. to ensure you’re included. \nPlease note: Contestants must be age 13 or younger to participate. \n \nAll families\, friends and neighbors are encouraged to come together to enjoy a fun-filled evening with us. While we encourage everyone to join us for the entire event\, if you’re just interested in seeing the fireworks show\, it will begin at 9:30 p.m. \nIndependence Day is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the Declaration of Independence\, which was ratified by the Second Continental Congress on July 4\, 1776. America declared its independence from Great Britain to officially become an independent nation. The City will be joining in celebrations across the nation to commemorate our country’s 247th anniversary.
