DESCRIPTION:Mayor Carlo DeMaria is pleased to announce the City of Everett\, in partnership with the Boston Renegades\, will be hosting the Community Bowl on Saturday\, October 29th from 1:00PM to 5:00PM at Everett Veterans Memorial Stadium located on Cabot St. \nAs part of Mayor DeMaria’s “Everett For Everyone” initiative\, residents are invited to come watch the Everett High School (EHS) Alumni take on the Boston Renegade Alumni in a fun and competitive game of flag football. The goal is to bring the Everett community together to enjoy some flag football and help local resident Brandon Conde with his recovery from a spinal cord injury he suffered in 2019. \nMain Event\nThe event will have free admission for all who attend and will feature concession stands selling food\, drinks and merchandise from both teams. All proceeds from the event will go towards supporting Conde’s recovery. \nThe event will begin with a pre-game tailgate from 1:00PM to 2:30PM for residents to come together\, play field games and have fun. The matchup between the EHS Alumni and Renegades Alumni will kick off at 3:00PM and will also feature a halftime show for all to enjoy. \nMeet the Teams After Party\nAfter the game\, there will also be a “Meet the Team Mixer” at the Schiavo Club located at 71 Tileston St. from 5:00PM to 10:00PM. Attendees 21 and older only are invited to attend to meet the players from both participating teams and support Brandon Conde through donations. There will be food\, a cash bar and plenty of fun. \nAbout the Teams\nThe EHS Alumni team will be comprised of football players who played in the championship seasons 2001\, 2002 and 2003\, which are known as the “three-peat” years. This is the time period when EHS football won the championship three years in a row. \nThe Boston Renegades is a professional women’s football team that is part of the Women’s Football Alliance (WFA). The WFA is a professional full-contact women’s football league that began in 2009 and consists of 64 active teams across the United States as of the 2022 season. The Renegades have won their seventh overall and fourth consecutive WFA Pro National Championship this past season. \nMayor DeMaria invites residents to enjoy a day of community and celebrating Everett’s charitable nature through a friendly game of flag football. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.

DESCRIPTION:Mayor Carlo DeMaria and The Council on Aging invite you to attend this important presentation titled “Consequences Expected and Unintended\, What’s Next?” by author and speaker Henry Quinlan on Tuesday\, November 15 at 1:00 PM at The Connolly Center located at 90 Chelsea St. \nAbout the Speaker\nHenry Quinlan has more than 36 years of experience in relations with Russia beginning with the George W. Bush administration working on special projects in the former Soviet Union. He is also a long-time friend of the former Russian ambassador Vitaly Churkin. \nPresentation\nThis presentation will examine the impact of the current war on Ukraine\, Russia and the rest of the world\, which some are intended and some are unintended. Aside from death and destruction in Ukraine\, the many possibilities of this war could lead to a world-wide food shortage where millions of people will slip into poverty. The United States is fighting a “third party” war\, and the question is\, how much should the U.S. be involved? DESCRIPTION:Join us as Mayor DeMaria and family throw the switch and light up the beautiful Christmas tree to kick off the holiday season with the most wonderful celebration of the year. \nThere will be plenty for all to enjoy including live musical performances\, horse drawn wagon rides\, train rides\, holiday characters\, face painting\, balloon creations\, food\, giveaways and even a special visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus directly from the North Pole. He will arrive down Broadway at approximately 5pm\, led by the Everett Police and Fire Departments and Everett High School’s award-winning band! All of this\, and so much more can be expected at this magical celebration. \nCome sit around our fire pits with hot chocolate and popcorn while watching a classic holiday movie on our large LED screen. \nThere will be photos with Santa upstairs at the Parlin Library and your child can enjoy Arts and Crafts and Story Telling with Mrs. Claus while you wait for your turn to see Santa! \nAll residents and their families are invited to attend this magical celebration as we spread holiday cheer throughout the City.

That’s ok\, because attendees will be introduced to the holiday\, the meaning of it and the seven principles by African Drum and Dance group Uprising Dance Theater. Following this\, attendees will be treated to a jazz performance by Big Redd’s House. After that\, vocalist Janey David will serenade the crowd with her magnificent voice. \nAll residents are welcome to attend this celebration of food\, culture and community at our annual Kwanzaa Celebration.

SUMMARY:BLACK HISTORY MONTH EVENT - Seeds. Roots. Branches: A Living History of Black Families in Everett
DESCRIPTION:Mayor Carlo DeMaria invites all residents to join us for this event as part of the City of Everett’s celebration of Black History Month. \nThe event will include a photo exhibit\, curated by Everett residents in partnership with the City\, providing a glimpse into the memories and experiences of Black families with a long history of living in Everett through images of home life in “The Village” or “The Bottoms\,” to portraits of leaders in the community and beyond. The series provides the viewer with an opportunity to learn more about Black families who have had a presence in Everett – some for nearly two hundred years. The curators hope this exhibit will encourage more dialogue and exchange in Everett among all people and strengthen the bonds of community. The exhibit will be up for viewing February 11\, 2023 – March 3\, 2023.

As a young singer from Chattanooga\, Tennessee\, Bessie and her sibling were left orphaned leaving their abusive older sister to raise them. To help support the family\, Bessie worked in Vaudeville shows. She pushed her way into the business and finally got a record deal. Eventually\, her success dries up only to lead to a comeback.

Express what Black History Month means to you in our art contest!\nIn celebration of Black History Month\, Mayor Carlo DeMaria invites Everett students in grades 5-12 to participate in our art contest. \nHere’s how it will work\nParticipants will be divided into 2 divisions: \n\nStudents in grades 5-8\nStudents in grades 9-12\n\nOur panel of judges will decide which creations they like best. Each division winner will receive a Target gift card! \nHere’s what you need to do\n\nCreate a 12″ x 12″ picture on paper or canvas that expresses what Black History Month means to you.\nBring your picture to the Rec Center by 1:30 p.m. on the day of the event.\nBe creative and have fun!\n\nCelebrations for all to partake in\nIn addition to the art contest\, come view our photo gallery to learn about important Black athletes who have impacted their communities outside of the playing field.
