Entertainment will be provided by musician and DJ Tommy Sheehan. \nThe month of March is recognized as Irish American Heritage Month in the United States to recognize and celebrate the contributions Irish immigrants have made in all aspects of American life. DESCRIPTION:Mayor Carlo DeMaria invites all residents to the City of Everett’s first annual Dorothy Martin Long Women’s History Month Luncheon! \nDorothy Martin Long\n \nNamed after Dorothy Martin Long\, the luncheon will celebrate the visions\, voices and impact of women as part of the City’s celebration of Women’s History Month. Long\, who was a lifelong Everett resident\, had a significant impact on the Everett community through public service and her passion for volunteering. Her volunteerism included work with organizations such as the Malden YMCA and Mystic Valley Elder Services\, as well as Housing Families\, Inc.\, where she dedicated 16 years tutoring homeless children. Long served on the Everett School Committee and was elected Commissioner of the Everett Charter Commission\, where she led a team effort to re-write and modernize the City’s constitution. She also served on the City’s Diversity and Equity Task Force. In addition to her service as pastoral leader\, Dr. Hicks works full-time as Program Manager of the Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences (MBS) Program at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston\, where she has worked for 32 years. DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HERE\nMayor DeMaria Asks All Residents to Participate in\nAnnual Earth Day Cleanup\nAll are welcome to register to help plant 3\,000 trees and beautify Gateway Park and Glenwood Cemetery \nIn celebration of Earth Day\, which is recognized every year on April 22 to celebrate the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement\, the City will join with community members and local organizations to plant 3\,000 trees at Gateway Park. In order to reach this goal\, the Mayor is asking all residents to join in on this community effort to help improve Everett’s environment. \nParticipants will have the opportunity to mulch and plant trees that will help improve the environment and the public park’s green space. Some of the benefits of planting trees include reducing energy usage\, removing air pollutants\, filtering stormwater\, and cooling urban areas by providing shade and releasing water vapor. \nIn addition to planting trees at Gateway Park\, those who wish to participate can choose to help beautify Glenwood Cemetery upon registering. This option is limited to 30 volunteers. \nFollowing the cleanup and planting efforts\, the City will be hosting a free cookout at 12 p.m. at Gateway Park for all who participated in the event. The event will feature live performances by Talib Kweli\, Skyzoo\, Landon Wordswell\, Rayell\, and The Woo Factor to create an unforgettable day of music and unity. \nJuneteenth\, which is a nationally recognized holiday on June 19 in the United States\, celebrates when in 1865 Union Army General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston\, Texas to tell enslaved African Americans they are now free. This was one of the last places in the United States to free slaves after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued by President Abraham Lincoln on January 1\, 1863. \nThe City will be joining in celebrations across the country by hosting this free event for the community to come together and participate in.
