This year marks the beginning of the Year of the Dragon\, which is one of 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac. All are welcome to celebrate the Lunar New Year as a community. \nCelebrated on the second new moon after the winter solstice\, Lunar New Year marks the beginning of the new year in the traditional Chinese lunarsolar calendar. Although Lunar New Year is observed worldwide\, it is commonly celebrated in China – along with many other countries in East Asia – with performances\, dances\, festivals\, parades\, music and acrobatics.

DESCRIPTION:Everett Recreation Hosting Youth Skills\, 3-Point and Dunk Contest\nEverett youth are invited to celebrate Black History Month and NBA All-Star weekend with food\, fun and entertainment \nIn celebration of the National Basketball Association’s (NBA) All-Star weekend\, Mayor Carlo DeMaria invites youth in grades 3-12 to participate in the Skills\, 3-Point and Dunk Contest. \nThe Contest\nThe basketball court will be split in two to divide participants into grades 3-6 and grades 7-12 for the skills and 3-point contest. Afterwards\, all participants will join back together for a dunk contest to have fun and show off their moves. ex. Grades 3 and 4 will compete against each other and grades 5 and 6 will compete against each other. Her volunteerism included work with organizations such as the Malden YMCA and Mystic Valley Elder Services\, as well as Housing Families\, Inc.\, where she dedicated 16 years tutoring homeless children. Long served on the Everett School Committee and was elected Commissioner of the Everett Charter Commission\, where she led a team effort to re-write and modernize the City’s constitution. She also served on the City’s Diversity and Equity Task Force. In order to reach this goal\, the Mayor is asking all residents to join in on this community effort to help improve Everett’s environment. \nParticipants will have the opportunity to mulch and plant trees that will help improve the environment and the public park’s green space. Some of the benefits of planting trees include reducing energy usage\, removing air pollutants\, filtering stormwater\, and cooling urban areas by providing shade and releasing water vapor. \nIn addition to planting trees at Gateway Park\, those who wish to participate can choose to help beautify Glenwood Cemetery upon registering. This option is limited to 30 volunteers. \nFollowing the cleanup and planting efforts\, the City will be hosting a free cookout at 12 p.m. at Gateway Park for all who participated in the event. DESCRIPTION:Mayor Carlo DeMaria and the City of Everett\, in partnership with El Mundo Boston and La Hora del Café\, invite you to Canciones Y Comida! \nThe Everett Adult Learning Center’s cultural immersion classes will be kicking off with this annual event. It will be a fun day of “Learning Through Uniting” with plenty of singing\, dancing and delicious food. \nWhat to Expect\nAttendees can expect to enjoy Mexican\, Peruvian and Brazilian food while learning about Hispanic culture. There will also be special DJ guests and live performances by Chocolate Radio\, Dani Noveli\, DJ Xplicit\, Los Primos del Refugio\, Primo Simón and Rico Suave. It’s an event all about coming together to learn\, sing\, dance\, eat and have plenty of fun. All are welcome to attend this celebration.

Our talented DJ will keep the dance floor alive with a vibrant mix of music that caters to all tastes and styles. \nIn addition to the dance floor excitement\, there will be a variety of entertaining activities to enjoy throughout the evening. From photo booths to interactive games\, there’s something for everyone at the Spring Bash! \nParents can rest assured knowing that this event is not only a blast for their kids but also contributes to a worthy cause.
