DESCRIPTION:Mayor Carlo DeMaria is pleased to announce the City of Everett’s Council on Aging (COA) will host the annual New Year’s Eve party on Tuesday\, Dec. 31\, 2024 beginning at 11 a.m. at Anthony’s in Malden (105 Canal Street\, Malden\, MA 02148). \nUpon arrival\, attendees will be greeted by the friendly staff at Anthony’s in the beautiful lounge with a fireplace for a light continental breakfast and coffee. Later\, attendees will ascend to the Blue Room (elevator available) to enjoy appetizers and possibly a cocktail before the main course. \nThe COA has chosen a delicious meal that will include garden salad\, minestrone soup\, roast beef with mushroom gravy\, roasted chicken\, mashed potatoes\, seasonal vegetables\, coffee\, and an ice cream sundae for dessert. DESCRIPTION:City of Everett to Host Annual Health Fair\nEverett’s older adults can receive health screenings and information from participating agencies at this free event \nMayor Carlo DeMaria and the City of Everett’s Council on Aging (COA) invite all of Everett’s older adults to the annual Health Fair. \nThe City of Everett will once again be hosting this annual event that gives older adults the opportunity to get free health screenings and information from participating agencies. Attendees will have the chance to receive hearing tests\, as well as cholesterol\, blood pressure\, and diabetes checks and also receive information about women’s health\, behavioral health\, and weight loss. Attendees are also invited to learn about the various programs and services that are offered by the COA. \nFree Transportation \nThose who would like to attend and need transportation to the event can dial 617-625-1191 and press 2 for reservations between the hours of 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. DESCRIPTION:As part of the City’s celebration of Women’s History Month\, which is celebrated during the month of March in recognition of the contributions and achievements of women throughout history\, all are welcome to attend this event that will honor women who have served in the United States military. In addition\, there will be a free public showing of the film “Six Triple Eight.” The film features the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion\, which is an all-Black and all-female battalion during World War II. \nThe Department of Veterans’ Affairs is also seeking community submissions of women veterans during active duty to be featured at the event. DESCRIPTION:Mayor Carlo DeMaria invites all residents to the City of Everett’s second annual Dorothy Martin Long Women’s History Month Luncheon! All are welcome to attend the event. \nDorothy Martin Long\n \nNamed after Dorothy Martin Long\, the luncheon will celebrate the visions\, voices and impact of women as part of the City’s celebration of Women’s History Month. Long\, who was a lifelong Everett resident\, had a significant impact on the Everett community through public service and her passion for volunteering. Her volunteerism included work with organizations such as the Malden YMCA and Mystic Valley Elder Services\, as well as Housing Families\, Inc.\, where she dedicated 16 years tutoring homeless children. Long served on the Everett School Committee and was elected Commissioner of the Everett Charter Commission\, where she led a team effort to re-write and modernize the City’s constitution. Anderson Magras is a proud native of Malden\, MA\, where she was born\, raised\, and educated. She graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science degree. In 2012\, while raising a young family\, Kristy earned her Master of Education with a concentration in school counseling from Cambridge College. She gave birth to her youngest daughter just one month shy of graduating. \nAfter completing her undergraduate degree\, Kristy worked as an assistant buyer for Filene’s Basement. However\, after several years in the retail industry\, she realized her work wasn’t having a direct impact on others. Determined to make a meaningful difference\, she decided to pursue a career in education. Kristy returned to her high school counselor for guidance and began her journey to become a school counselor. It was her teachers\, alongside her family\, who helped her reach her goals and pushed her to not only see the best in herself but to strive for excellence. She wanted to be a source of encouragement and support for the next generation of students\, just as her teachers had been for her. \nKristy currently works as a school counselor at Malden High School\, the most diverse high school in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. She has also worked with at-risk and housing-insecure youth and served as a mentor for the YWCA’s “WorkSmart” program\, which helps ensure vulnerable students have access to quality post-secondary education and employment opportunities. \nKristy is the proud mother of two daughters\, Kendra Rene and Kyla Rose\, who are her heart and inspiration. She is committed to continuing the legacy of teaching young people the importance of service to others\, just as her parents taught her. Kristy is the daughter of former long-time Malden City Councillor Neal Anderson and Paula Anderson. From an early age\, Kristy was actively involved in her father’s campaigns and grew up in a family deeply committed to public service—a commitment she continues today. \nA life member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority\, Inc. with over 25 years of membership\, Kristy is currently serving her second term as president of the Psi Omega Chapter (Boston AKA’s). \nShe is also an active member of Emmanuel Baptist Church\, where she has served as a youth leader\, trustee\, and trustee chair. \nKristy’s life is guided by the scripture:\n“From everyone who has been given much\, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much\, much more will be asked.” – Luke 12:48.

DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HERE\nJoin the City of Everett for the Annual Spring Cleanup\nAll are welcome to register to join in a community effort to beautify parks and the surrounding areas throughout Everett \nIn celebration of Earth Day\, which is recognized every year on April 22 to celebrate the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement\, the City will join with community members and local organizations to clean up five parks and the surrounding areas throughout the city. In order to reach this goal\, the Mayor is asking residents to join in on this community effort to help beautify key areas in the city. \nChoose a Park\nThe five parks that participants can choose from are: \n\nEdith Street Park: 117 Edith Street\, Everett\, MA 02149 (in front of the Lafayette School.\nFlorence Street Park (Big Flo): At the corner of Chelsea Street and Florence Street.\nGlendale Park: 50 Elm Street\, Everett\, MA 02149.\nGlenwood Cemetery: Entrance is located on Washington Avenue\, Everett\, MA 02149.\nSwan Street Park: At the corner of Swan Street and Kinsman Street.\n\nThose who participate will have the opportunity to help clean a park of their choosing. Additionally\, participants will be able to clean the surrounding areas of the park\, which includes removing trash and debris from sidewalks and maintaining tree pits. \nFree Lunch\nFollowing the cleanup\, there will be a free lunch at 12:00 p.m. at each park location for all who participated in the event. \nREGISTER HERE\nThose who wish to participate must register before the event.

DESCRIPTION:Mayor Carlo DeMaria is pleased to announce that the City of Everett has planned three days to place U.S. flags on the graves of veterans at Glenwood and Woodlawn cemeteries in preparation for Memorial Day. \nThe Mayor is asking residents to participate in the special task of honoring those who served in the United States military and are now laid to rest by helping place U.S. flags on veteran-marked graves. SUMMARY:Memorial Day Flag Placing 2025 - Woodlawn Cemetery Day 1
DESCRIPTION:Mayor Carlo DeMaria is pleased to announce that the City of Everett has planned three days to place U.S. flags on the graves of veterans at Glenwood and Woodlawn cemeteries in preparation for Memorial Day. \nThe Mayor is asking residents to participate in the special task of honoring those who served in the United States military and are now laid to rest by helping place U.S. flags on veteran-marked graves. Volunteers will meet at the cemeteries to receive flags and disperse to find and place the flags beside veteran-marked graves. \n“If you haven’t had the opportunity to join us for this effort before\, it is a truly humbling experience to be reminded of the sacrifices that the men and women from our very own community were willing to make to defend our country and our freedom\,” said Mayor DeMaria. “Placing flags is a small but important way for us to thank and remember the individuals who are no longer with us for their service.” \nVolunteers are asked to meet at the following locations and times: \n\nGlenwood Cemetery (Washington Avenue\, Everett\, MA 02149): Monday\, May 12: 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.\nWoodlawn Cemetery (302 Elm Street\, Everett\, MA 02149): Tuesday\, May 13: 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Wednesday\, May 14: 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.\n\nIf you are able to participate\, please contact Veterans Agent Gerri Miranda at Gerri.Miranda@ci.everett.ma.us.
