DESCRIPTION:Mayor Carlo DeMaria invites all residents to join us as we clean up and plant new life at Rivergreen Park in celebration of Earth Day!\nEarth Day is recognized every year on April 22 to celebrate the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement. It also serves as a reminder to us all to take care of our planet. The City will be taking part in celebrating Earth Day by hosting our annual clean up effort. \n \nThere will be many activities for all ages and abilities from big lift to sedentary tasks. Throughout the event\, our community will be creating and maintaining new life by planting trees and shrubs\, putting down mulch in wooded areas\, mixing and spreading seed to create wildflowers and creating homes for birds. We will also be improving areas by picking up trash and debris\, cleaning up the dock\, raking phragmites to create nests for critters and remove invasive plant species that harm the environment and kill native plants. \n \nIn addition\, there will be activities for participants after the cleanup including a cookout\, boat and canoe rides as well as demonstrations from the Everett High School and Wentworth Crew teams on the Malden River for all who participated to say thank you for helping us in this tremendous community clean-up effort. \n \nRegister Now!\nPlease complete the registration form by clicking here. DESCRIPTION:Mayor Carlo DeMaria invites residents to help plant trees and learn about our tree planting program from the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR)\nThe Department of Recreation and Conservation (DCR) will be planting outside of the Old Everett High School at 548 Broadway in Everett to celebrate and promote the DCR’s Greening the Gateway Cities Program (GGCP). Starting this spring of 2023\, GGCP will offer Everett residents free tree plantings for their properties. This program targets concentrated Environmental Justice neighborhoods and areas within gateway cities with lower tree canopy\, older housing stock\, higher wind speeds and a larger renter population. DESCRIPTION:City of Everett Hosting Annual Memorial Day Flag Placement\nMayor Asks Residents to Help Place Flags on Veterans’ Graves\n \nMayor Carlo DeMaria\, in collaboration with Antoine Coleman\, the City of Everett’s Director of Veterans’ Affairs\, is pleased to announce the City of Everett will be hosting the annual event to place U.S. flags on veteran marked graves at Glenwood and Woodlawn Cemeteries. \nMayor DeMaria is asking residents to take part in the special task of honoring those who served our country and are now laid to rest by helping place flags on the graves of veterans. Many of these heroes gave their lives for our freedom while on active duty and it’s important to never forget their sacrifice. \n“If you haven’t had the opportunity to join us for this effort before\, it is a truly humbling experience to be reminded of the sacrifices that the men and women from our very own community were willing to make to defend our country and our freedom\,” said Mayor DeMaria. “Placing flags is a small\, but important way for us to thank and remember the individuals who have gone before us for their service.” \nVolunteers are asked to meet at the following locations and times: \nGlenwood Cemetery (Washington Ave.\, Everett\, MA 02149): \n\nTuesday\, May 9: 8 a.m. – 11 a.m.\n\nWoodlawn Cemetery (302 Elm St.\, Everett\, MA 02149): \n\nTuesday\, May 16: 8 a.m. – 11 a.m.\nWednesday\, May 17: – 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.\n\nIf you are able to participate\, please contact Antoine Coleman\, Director of Veterans’ Affairs\, at Antoine.Coleman@ci.everett.ma.us.
