DESCRIPTION:Mayor DeMaria Announces Brazilian Flag Raising Ceremony and Independence Festival \nAll are welcome to celebrate Brazilian independence with music\, food and more \n\nThe Brazilian flag flying high at Everett City Hall.\nMayor Carlo DeMaria is pleased to announce the City of Everett\, in partnership with the Brazilian Women’s Group\, the Brazilian Consulate and the office of City Councilor Stephanie Martins\, will raise the Brazilian flag on Saturday\, Sept. 9\, 2023\, at 1 p.m.\, at Everett City Hall\, 484 Broadway\, at the corner of Church Street and Broadway. The ceremony will be followed by the Brazilian Independence Festival\, from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.\, which attendees will parade down Broadway from City Hall to the School Street Municipal Parking Lot next to Oliveira’s. \nRaising the Brazilian Flag\nThis event will kick off by gathering the Everett community together to raise the Brazilian flag at Everett City Hall in honor of the country’s 201 years of independence. \nFestival\nIn addition to the flag raising\, attendees will be walking down Broadway with a band and dancers leading the way to the School Street Municipal Parking Lot to continue the celebration with a festival. The festival will include music\, food and resources provided by local organizations and service providers. \n“We are proud to once again raise the Brazilian flag at City Hall and host a festival immediately after to celebrate our rich Brazilian presence here in Everett\,” said Mayor DeMaria. “I encourage all residents to join us and partake in all this event has to offer.” \nThe Independence Day of Brazil\, commonly called Sete de Setembro\, is a national holiday observed in Brazil every year on September 7 to celebrate Brazil’s Declaration of Independence from the former United Kingdom of Portugal\, Brazil and Algarve’s in 1822. The City will be joining in celebrations of the country’s milestone and is inviting all residents to participate.

DESCRIPTION:Mayor Carlo DeMaria invites all residents to join us in remembering the victims of 9/11 on Monday\, Sept. 11\, at 9:15 a.m.\, at the 9/11 Memorial located at the Parlin Library\, 410 Broadway. \nThe City will be hosting a remembrance ceremony to honor the memory of the 2\,977 people who were killed due to the Sept. 11 attacks on our country. The event will have guest speakers to deliver their remarks\, a moment of silence for the victims at the time of the attacks and light refreshments at the conclusion of the ceremony. \n“We must never forget the thousands of innocent lives that were taken on that terrible day\,” said Mayor DeMaria. “I encourage everyone in our community to gather with us in remembrance of all those we lost on 9/11.” \nOn the morning of Sept. 11\, 2001\, terrorists hijacked four commercial planes\, deliberately crashing two of the planes into the upper floors of the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center and a third plane into the Pentagon in Arlington\, Virginia. The fourth plane crashed into an empty field in western Pennsylvania due to passengers fighting back and stopping the plane from reaching the intended target of the hijacker. The attacks killed 2\,977 people. Since then\, the day is remembered annually to honor and never forget the victims and their families along with the heroes who put their lives on the line to help others.

This year’s event will be hosted at Everett Stadium and promises to be even better! \nMayor Carlo DeMaria is pleased to announce the City of Everett\, in partnership with El Mundo Boston and Rumba 97.7\, will host the second annual Fiesta Del Río on Sunday\, Sept. 24\, 2023\, from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.\, at Everett Stadium\, Cabot Street. \nFree Admission\nEverett Veterans Memorial Stadium where this year’s Fiesta Del Río will take place. \nThis event will have free admission and offer a variety of activities to enjoy such as live performances\, Hispanic cultural food\, entertainment for children and resources from participating vendors. \n“We’re excited to once again host Fiesta Del Río for all of our residents to have a good time and learn more about Hispanic heritage by partaking in all that we have to offer at this event\,” said Mayor DeMaria. “Everett has a large and diverse Hispanic community\, and it’s important that we continue to celebrate the cultures that are representative of our city.” \nFeatured Performers\n\nThis year’s lineup of performers will include a wide range of talented artists. \nYou won’t want to miss amazing performances by: \nKiño • JayB Prodigy • Chicomania • Lil Phunk • DJ Sisko • Adriana Hererra • Nathan Bedoya • DJ Donny D Rodriguez • Juan Vaquerano Jr. • Daniel Torres • La Sabrosura de Boston • Lega2 • Mariachi Cuerdas de Plata • Primo Simon • Solas in the Mix • Urban Feme • Vallenato Sin Fronteras • DJ Xplicit \nTake the FREE Shuttle To & From The Event\nAttendees are encouraged to take the free Encore Neighborhood Runner Shuttles\, which have added a special stop at Everett Stadium for the day\, to and from the event.\nThose looking to attend are encouraged to take the free Neighborhood Runner Shuttle Service provided by Encore\, which will be adding a route to and from Everett Stadium for the day.
