Day where young women will participate in fun activities and learn about careers in public safety!\nThe City of Everett\, Alliance Security\, Everett Fire Department\, Everett Police Department\, Massachusetts State Police\, State Police Association for Massachusetts\, and Tufts University Department of Public Safety\, are pleased to announce their partnership in hosting G.I.R.L.S. Day 2024! \nG.I.R.L.S. stands for Grit\, Intelligence\, Resilience\, Leadership and Strength. Through this event\, the goal is to empower Everett youth girls from ages 5 to 14 years old to explore these typically male-dominated careers as options for them too. \nYoung women will participate in activities like mock crime scene investigations\, visits to the fire house\, physical exercises\, finger printing\, obstacle courses and so much more. \nRegister now!\nParticipants must be between the ages of 5 and 14. DESCRIPTION:Mayor Carlo DeMaria invites all residents to the City of Everett’s first annual Dorothy Martin Long Women’s History Month Luncheon! \nDorothy Martin Long\n \nNamed after Dorothy Martin Long\, the luncheon will celebrate the visions\, voices and impact of women as part of the City’s celebration of Women’s History Month. Long\, who was a lifelong Everett resident\, had a significant impact on the Everett community through public service and her passion for volunteering. Her volunteerism included work with organizations such as the Malden YMCA and Mystic Valley Elder Services\, as well as Housing Families\, Inc.\, where she dedicated 16 years tutoring homeless children. Long served on the Everett School Committee and was elected Commissioner of the Everett Charter Commission\, where she led a team effort to re-write and modernize the City’s constitution. She also served on the City’s Diversity and Equity Task Force. In addition to her service as pastoral leader\, Dr. Hicks works full-time as Program Manager of the Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences (MBS) Program at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston\, where she has worked for 32 years. In addition to her role as Program Manager\, she is also an appointed Assistant Professor of Medical Education at Tufts. \nAll are welcome to attend the event.

DESCRIPTION:City of Everett Hosting Irish American Heritage Month Flag Raising and Celebration\nAll are welcome to join the City in raising the Irish flag at City Hall and attend a community reception immediately after \n \nMayor Carlo DeMaria invites all residents to the City of Everett’s Irish American Heritage Month flag raising and celebration on Saturday\, March 16\, at 1 p.m.\, at Everett City Hall (484 Broadway)\, at the corner of Church Street and Broadway. Following the ceremony\, there will be a community reception at 2 p.m. at Stewart’s Pub (140 Jefferson Avenue). \nFlag Raising\nThe City of Everett will be joining in celebrations across the nation to pay tribute to the achievements and contributions of Irish Americans by raising the Irish flag to fly high at City Hall. \nCommunity Reception\n\nFollowing the flag raising\, the celebration will continue with a community gathering at Stewart’s Pub for food\, music and plenty of fun. Entertainment will be provided by musician and DJ Tommy Sheehan. \nThe month of March is recognized as Irish American Heritage Month in the United States to recognize and celebrate the contributions Irish immigrants have made in all aspects of American life. Irish Americans have made significant contributions to Everett and the rest of the country throughout history.

This year marks the beginning of the Year of the Dragon\, which is one of 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac. All are welcome to celebrate the Lunar New Year as a community. \nCelebrated on the second new moon after the winter solstice\, Lunar New Year marks the beginning of the new year in the traditional Chinese lunarsolar calendar. Although Lunar New Year is observed worldwide\, it is commonly celebrated in China – along with many other countries in East Asia – with performances\, dances\, festivals\, parades\, music and acrobatics.
