DESCRIPTION:Mayor Carlo DeMaria is pleased to announce that the City of Everett will host the Juneteenth Celebration event on Thursday\, June 19\, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.\, at Baldwin Avenue Park (14-16 Baldwin Avenue). \nAll are welcome to unite in celebration of Juneteenth with live music\, food\, and activities to partake in. The event will feature live performances by DJ Troy\, Janey David\, Big Redd’s House\, Rey Royale\, and The Brothers Walk to create an unforgettable day of music and unity. \nJuneteenth\, which is a national holiday recognized on June 19 in the United States\, celebrates when in 1865 Union Army General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston\, Texas to tell enslaved African Americans they are now free. This was one of the last places in the United States to free slaves after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued by President Abraham Lincoln on January 1\, 1863. The day commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and recognizes the ongoing efforts to ensure freedom and equality for all. \nThe City will be joining in celebrations across the country by hosting this free event for the community to come together and participate in.
