Long served on the Everett School Committee and was elected Commissioner of the Everett Charter Commission\, where she led a team effort to re-write and modernize the City’s constitution. Anderson Magras is a proud native of Malden\, MA\, where she was born\, raised\, and educated. She graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science degree. In 2012\, while raising a young family\, Kristy earned her Master of Education with a concentration in school counseling from Cambridge College. She gave birth to her youngest daughter just one month shy of graduating. \nAfter completing her undergraduate degree\, Kristy worked as an assistant buyer for Filene’s Basement. However\, after several years in the retail industry\, she realized her work wasn’t having a direct impact on others. Determined to make a meaningful difference\, she decided to pursue a career in education. Kristy returned to her high school counselor for guidance and began her journey to become a school counselor. It was her teachers\, alongside her family\, who helped her reach her goals and pushed her to not only see the best in herself but to strive for excellence. She wanted to be a source of encouragement and support for the next generation of students\, just as her teachers had been for her. \nKristy currently works as a school counselor at Malden High School\, the most diverse high school in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. She has also worked with at-risk and housing-insecure youth and served as a mentor for the YWCA’s “WorkSmart” program\, which helps ensure vulnerable students have access to quality post-secondary education and employment opportunities. \nKristy is the proud mother of two daughters\, Kendra Rene and Kyla Rose\, who are her heart and inspiration. She is committed to continuing the legacy of teaching young people the importance of service to others\, just as her parents taught her. Kristy is the daughter of former long-time Malden City Councillor Neal Anderson and Paula Anderson. Attendees will have the chance to receive hearing tests\, as well as cholesterol\, blood pressure\, and diabetes checks and also receive information about women’s health\, behavioral health\, and weight loss. Attendees are also invited to learn about the various programs and services that are offered by the COA. \nFree Transportation \nThose who would like to attend and need transportation to the event can dial 617-625-1191 and press 2 for reservations between the hours of 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
