The City of Everett has been awarded $100,000 in the FY2026 state budget to expand inclusion and accessibility for its neurodivergent population. The funding, secured through an earmark sponsored by State Representative Joseph McGonagle and requested by the City’s DEI Department, supports Mayor Carlo DeMaria’s Everett for Everyone initiative.

Why it matters: Neurodivergent refers to people whose brains process information differently. This includes individuals with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, sensory processing differences, and other cognitive or developmental variations. This funding will help the City create programs and spaces that better meet their needs.

What they’re saying:

“Supporting our neurodivergent residents is central to building a more inclusive, welcoming Everett for all, and this funding helps us take real steps towards that goal,” said Mayor DeMaria.

How the funds will be used:

  • Citywide equity and accessibility assessment

  • Staff and stakeholder trainings

  • Sensory-friendly equipment for events and public spaces

  • Expanded out-of-school time support

  • Resources for caregivers and families

Learn more: The funding is allocated under Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services, line item 5911-1003. Residents can view the allocation in the state budget.

Additional details, including upcoming events and opportunities tied to this funding, will be shared by the end of the month.
