Job Summary:
The incumbent performs a variety of manual tasks using basic skills in the security, maintenance and care of city property and equipment that are under the control and responsibility of the department of city services Tasks generally include but are not limited to, repair and maintenance of streets, sidewalks, water and sewer, cemetery, parks, buildings, and utilities.
Most work is outdoors, therefore, the incumbent is often exposed to weather conditions in addition, the incumbent is required to walk, stand, bend, crawl, climb, lift weights of approx. 25-50 pounds and handle power tools. The responsibilities of this job description are not all inclusive.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform manual work requiring skills in the construction and repair of roads, streets, and sidewalks, excavating, bracing; grading; spreads stone; rakes asphalt; construct cement and brick sidewalks; sets edge stone; repairs manholes and drains.
- Perform manual work requiring skills in masonry. Constructs masonry foundations for monuments; plans and measures new lots; fills in sunken graves straightens tipped head stones.
- Perform ground maintenance duties in parks, playgrounds and cemetery such as care and maintain lawns, flowerbeds, trees, and shrubbery. Plant, seeds, rakes, fertilizes, grades, cuts, waters, and trims trees and bushes.
- Snow plowing, snow removal, treating of roads, and shoveling during snow events
- Maintain less complex mechanical equipment such as power mowers, hand machines, jackhammers, air tampers, compressors, pumps, post differs, tapping machine, and other similar equipment used in the construction trades.
- All other duties as assigned.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent
Special Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Mass driver’s license
- Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check and pre-employment drug test
