Hours: 35 hours per week, including at least one evening (after 5:00PM to 9:00PM) per week and inclusion in a Saturday rotation.

Position Summary:

As a Library Aide you will perform various tasks that maintain technical support and user services. You will work closely with other library staff and be supervised by the Library Director, and relevant supervisory staff. Each day you will utilize your attention to detail and interpersonal skills to maintain clerical work, perform reader advisory, help patrons locate materials, use the online catalog system, and request items from associated libraries.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Sort publications, books, and other items and return them to their proper shelving locations and storage areas.
  • Locate library materials and assist in the creation, routing, revision, and posting of various online documents.
  • Assist patrons when searching for reading or research materials, and instruct patrons in the use of equipment.
  • Set up new accounts and issue library cards, and maintain library equipment in proper working order.
  • Maintain records of new and used items received, issued, stored, and returned, and file according to established systems.
  • Perform clerical duties, such as sorting mail, answering phones, filing, photocopying, word processing, and mailing out letters, regularly communicating with supervisors regarding changes, and seeking to streamline processes where appropriate.
  • Open and close the library following regular business hours, secure library equipment, and address disruptions with tact.
  • Assist the public using the online catalog and accessing the internet.
  • Check in and out materials, collecting lost book replacement charges, handling ILL transactions and hold requests, assisting patrons and providing basic instruction on the use of available resources, processing new materials.
  • Community outreach, including some offsite work, may be required, such as hosting a library information booth at community events and visiting school classrooms and organizations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Library Director as needed.

Minimum Entrance Requirements:

  • Ability to serve a diverse community with tact, confidence, and enthusiasm.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other staff.
  • Ability to troubleshoot library equipment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Proven knowledge of computers and their uses in the library environment (Windows; Microsoft Office; G-Suite; internet) is required

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to hear and speak at normal levels, lift up to 20 pounds at times and use technologies and other devices such as would be required in an office environment
  • Must have the ability to stand, walk and sit for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to reach materials at various angles and locations
