Welcome to the City of Everett’s official guide for the 2026 Snow Season (December 2025 – April 2026). This page outlines emergency parking bans, towing regulations, and snow removal responsibilities to keep our streets safe and clear.

Which side of the street do I park on during a snow ban?

For the 2026 season, you must park on the EVEN side.

Because the current snow season ends in an even-numbered year (2026), all vehicles must park on the even-numbered side of the street when a snow emergency is declared.

  • Secondary Streets: If parking is normally allowed on both sides, move your car to the even side.

  • One-Sided Streets: If parking is normally allowed on only one side, stay on that designated side.

  • Main Arteries: Parking is strictly prohibited on main arteries (see list below).

Which streets have a total parking ban? (Main Arteries)

During a declared snow emergency, parking is always prohibited on the following Main Arteries to allow plows and emergency vehicles to pass. Do not park on these streets during a ban:

Main Arteries A-G

  • Alpine Ave.
  • Bellrock Ave.
  • Broadway
  • Bryant St.
  • Bucknam St.
  • Chelsea St.
  • Elm St.
  • Ferry St.
  • Fuller St.
  • Garland St. (easterly side)
Main Arteries H-Z

  • Hancock St.
  • High St.
  • Lawrence St.
  • Lynn St.
  • Main St.
  • Nichols St.
  • Norwood St.
  • Second St.
  • Tileston St.
  • Tremont St.
  • Union St.
Important: Vehicles parked on the odd side of secondary streets or anywhere on Main Arteries during a ban may be ticketed and towed.

Where can I park if I can't find a street spot?

If street parking is unavailable, residents with a valid Residential Parking Sticker may park in City municipal lots during a snow ban.

  • You may park in these lots once the ban is declared, but you must remove your vehicle immediately after the ban is lifted so crews can clear the lot.

How will I know when a Snow Parking Ban is declared?

The City of Everett uses multiple channels to alert residents. We recommend checking these sources if snow is in the forecast:

  • Blue Emergency Lights: Look for flashing blue lights on main roadways.
  • Online: Check the city website and official City social media accounts.
  • Phone: Registered residents will receive a robo-call. You can also call Constituent Services at 617-394-2270.
  • TV: Tune into Everett Community Television (ECTV).

What are the rules for shoveling and snow removal?

To help DPW crews and First Responders, please follow these safety ordinances:

  • Do not shovel snow into the street: This is prohibited as it creates hazards for drivers and disrupts plowing.

  • Clear fire hydrants: If there is a hydrant near your property, please clear at least three feet of snow around it to ensure fire safety.

  • Do not use “Space Savers”: Using furniture or objects to reserve a parking spot is prohibited by City ordinance.

  • Driveway tips: Wait until the storm ends to clear your driveway entrance if possible, as plows may push snow back toward the curb while clearing the road.

  • Trash Collection: If snowbanks block the sidewalk, you may place trash bags on top of the snowbank for collection (only if bins cannot reach the curb).
