Position Summary:
The Department of Public Works seeks a Motor Equipment Repairman, under the supervision of the DPW Director and Director of Operations, who will be responsible for the inspection, repair, and maintenance of all gas/diesel vehicles, powered motor vehicles, and equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Complete periodic preventive maintenance and repair of cars, trucks, tractors, forklifts, street sweepers, and heavy construction equipment.
- Repair and maintain small engine equipment such as power mowers, snow blowers, and other similarly sized equipment.
- Repair tires on all size vehicles; locate and seal punctures; remove tires from wheel in order to balance and/or replace.
- Perform repair, installation, and maintenance of automotive electrical systems; install and maintain storage batteries and perform tune-ups.
- Lubricate all motorized equipment; perform greasing; drain and refill crankcase; check transmission and differential levels and add fluid as required.
- Assist Working Foreman in maintaining an inventory of commonly used parts
- Operate electric and gas welding equipment as well as bronzing and burning tools when repairing vehicles.
- Complete the repair of motors, perform brake adjustments, replace fan belts, hose connections, alternator, etc. on both gasoline and diesel-powered equipment.
- Frequently check fuel and oil levels on all motor vehicles, and replenish.
- Repair and rebuild hydraulic pumps, cylinders and equipment.
- Perform other duties as required.
Minimum Entrance Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- MA Drivers’ License. CDL and hoisting license
- Prior experience performing the abilities listed below
- ASE Certification Preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Skill in the repair and maintenance of gas and diesel vehicles as well as the use of tools.
- Ability to maintain and repair a variety of vehicles and equipment.
- Ability to perform repairs to diesel engines in accordance with 5841C specification.
- Must be able to take direction and feedback in a positive manner.
- Must have a positive attitude and transportation to the work site.
- Willingness to obtain additional licensure if needed.
Physical Demand and Work Environment:
Most of the work is performed in-doors, but in an emergency situation when a vehicle is disabled, the work may be performed out-of-doors in poor weather conditions. Physical requirements are walking, standing, bending, crawling, climbing and lifting approximately 80 pounds.
