What happened:

The City of Everett is notifying residents of a nationwide cyber-attack on the CodeRED emergency alert system, which provides alerts for snow emergencies, evacuations, water outages, and other service disruptions.

What was exposed:

CodeRED reports that some personal information may have been compromised, including:

  • Names

  • Email addresses

  • Phone numbers

  • Passwords

The company has not confirmed how many accounts were affected.

What residents should do now:

  • You cannot reset your CodeRED password yet because the system is currently offline.

  • If you used the same password on other accounts (email, banking, social media, work accounts), change those passwords immediately.

Good to know:

  • CodeRED has taken the affected system offline and is transitioning to a new, secure platform that was not impacted.

  • The City does not currently have access to the alert system. Please keep an eye on our social media accounts and your emails for updates from the City.

  • Updates will be shared when the system is back online and passwords can be reset.

What this does not affect:

This incident does not involve the federal Emergency Alert System (EAS). Residents may still receive EAS alerts on TV, radio, and cell phones in emergencies.
