Position Summary:

The E911 Manager is responsible for overseeing the operations, personnel, and technology of the City of Everett’s Emergency Communications Center. This role ensures the efficient and effective handling of emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatch operations, and compliance with state and federal regulations. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, a background in emergency communications, and a commitment to public safety.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the E911 Communications Center.
  • Supervise and schedule dispatch personnel, ensuring 24/7 coverage.
  • Oversee training, performance evaluations, and professional development of staff.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal E911 regulations and standards.
  • Maintain and upgrade communications systems, including CAD, radio, and recording systems.
  • Coordinate with Police, Fire, EMS, and other public safety agencies.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for emergency communications.
  • Monitor call handling and dispatch performance metrics.
  • Prepare reports and manage the department’s budget and procurement.

Minimum Entrance Requirements:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Communications, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in emergency communications, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Knowledge of E911 systems, CAD software, and radio communications.
  • Certification in Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) and APCO/NENA standards preferred.
  • Ability to pass a background check and maintain confidentiality.

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
  • Proficiency in emergency communications technology and software.
  • Knowledge of public safety operations and interagency coordination.

Physical Demand and Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in a secure communications center environment.
  • May require extended periods of sitting and use of headsets and computer systems.

 

Occasional evening, weekend, or holiday work may be required.
