Position Summary:
The Adult Learning Center Coordinator serves as the driving force behind Everett’s citywide ESL programming, advancing educational equity and empowering adult learners through language acquisition. This role oversees the development, execution, and evaluation of English as a Second Language instruction, ensuring culturally responsive, multilingual access for Everett’s richly diverse community. The coordinator acts as a strategic liaison between educators, city departments, and community stakeholders, facilitating inclusive learning experiences that support immigrant integration, workforce readiness, and personal growth.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and manage day-to-day operations of adult ESL programs, ensuring timely delivery and instructional quality
- Supervise ESL instructors, support staff, and volunteers; provide training and guidance as needed
- Design and implement curricula aligned with learner needs, cultural relevance, and proficiency levels
- Maintain and monitor student records, attendance, and language assessment data using approved tracking systems
- Develop strategic partnerships with city departments, nonprofits, and local organizations to enhance program reach and resources
- Plan and execute community events, workshops, and orientations that support multilingual and multicultural adult learners
- Recruit new students through outreach efforts, utilizing multilingual marketing materials and in-person engagement
- Ensure program compliance with grant regulations, reporting requirements, and Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) guidelines
- Track and analyze program outcomes to support continuous improvement
- Advocate for the needs of ESL learners, promoting equity, digital literacy, and career readiness in all initiatives
Minimum Entrance Requirements:
- Preferred fluency in Spanish, Portuguese, and Haitian Creole or at least two of the three languages listed
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in adult education, ESL instruction, or program coordination
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with multicultural and multilingual populations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills across multiple languages
- Experience managing teams or educational staff in a community-based or academic setting
- Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings or weekends, to accommodate programming
- Intermediate fluency in additional languages (e.g., Arabic, Chinese, French, Vietnamese)
- Experience with curriculum development or community outreach in multilingual settings
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Familiarity with instructional trends in community-based ESL programming and digital learning integration
- Awareness of local immigrant populations’ unique needs and how to design inclusive adult education experiences
- Multilingual communication: conveying empathy, clarity, and professionalism in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole, and additional languages at a conversational level
- Curriculum development and adaptation across learner levels and cultural backgrounds
- Grant compliance tracking and program evaluation using qualitative and quantitative methods
- Strategic partnership-building with city departments, nonprofits, and regional education networks
- Event coordination and community outreach that reflect linguistic and cultural diversity
Physical Demand and Work Environment:
- Frequent sitting, standing, and walking throughout the workday
- Occasional lifting and carrying of instructional materials or office supplies (up to 25 lbs)
- Regular use of computers, phones, and other digital devices requiring fine motor skills and visual acuity
- Ability to travel between program sites, partner locations, and city offices as needed
- May be required to set up classrooms, event spaces, or outreach booths (including light furniture arrangement)
