Position Summary:

The IT Support Specialist responsibility is to provide technical support for all city departments. This includes troubleshooting, diagnosing, resolving, and documenting problems for employees regarding IT software and hardware. The position travels to offsite city departments to perform these functions as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Technical assistance to employees by performing proper diagnosis and providing users with step-by-step solutions.
  • Respond to technical issues reported by employees efficiently.
  • Provide support for PC hardware and city-used software, printers, etc.
  • Configure laptops for new hires and laptop replacements.
  • Meet with city employees in each department to learn about common technical issues, help with improvements and training.
  • Onboarding and offboarding end users; including workstation and city cell phone set ups as well maintaining and installing Information Systems hardware and software.
  • Provides other duties in support of IT department goals.

Minimum Entrance Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s Degree in related area preferred.
  • Two years’ experience working in a related IT environment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively. Must possess strong customer service skills.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to accurately document technical issues.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Proficient use of IT applications.
  • Troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to serve a diverse community with tact, confidence, and enthusiasm.

Working Conditions:

  • Physical Skills: Minimal physical demands are required to perform most of the work. The work principally involves sitting, with intermittent periods of stooping, walking, and standing. May be required to lift objects such as monitors, printers, office supplies, office equipment and other technology items weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Motor Skills: Duties are primarily mental rather than physical, but the job may occasionally require minimal motor skills for activities such as moving objects, using office equipment, including but not limited to telephones, personal computers, handheld technology, and other office equipment.
  • Visual Skills: Visual demands require routinely reading documents for general understanding and analytical purposes.
