The City of Everett recently came together to ensure local veterans felt supported and remembered during the holiday season through the annual Veterans Comfort Drive.
Led by the City’s Department of Veterans Services in partnership with the Council on Aging, the drive rallied residents, volunteers, and city departments to collect essential and comfort items for veterans living at the Massachusetts Veterans Home in Chelsea. Thanks to an overwhelming response from the community, more than 2,500 donated items were delivered on Thursday, December 18.
Donations included warm socks, blankets, clothing, and everyday hygiene supplies — items that help provide comfort, dignity, and care to those who have served our country. The drive collected more than 700 pairs of socks, 400 razors, 250 toothbrushes and tubes of toothpaste, along with hundreds of household essentials such as tissues and towels.
Mayor Carlo DeMaria praised the community effort and emphasized the importance of honoring Everett’s veterans.
“This incredible effort reflects the deep respect and gratitude Everett has for our veterans,” said Mayor DeMaria. “The Veterans Comfort Drive shows what we can accomplish when city departments and the community come together to honor those who have served our country. We want to make sure each and every veteran feels valued and cared for.”
Director of Veteran Services Erika Corbeli also highlighted the collaboration behind the drive.
“This was truly a team effort,” Corbeli said. “We are grateful to the Council on Aging and everyone who donated. These items may seem small, but they make a meaningful difference in the daily lives of our veterans.”
The City of Everett remains committed to supporting veterans through ongoing programs, partnerships, and community initiatives that recognize their service and sacrifice.
